The DVSA's own research suggests the average learner needs around 45 hours of professional instruction plus roughly 22 hours of private practice with a friend or family member. In reality it varies enormously: younger learners who practise between lessons often pass nearer 30 hours, while learners who only drive once a fortnight typically need more. After your assessment lesson we give you an honest, written estimate, and we update it as you progress rather than quietly stretching it out.

A single hour is £38 in both manual and automatic cars. Block bookings are cheaper per hour: 10 hours is £350 (£35 per hour) and 20 hours is £680 (£34 per hour). Intensive courses start at £1,200 for 30 hours including the practical test fee, Pass Plus is £240 for the six-hour course, and a five-hour refresher package for existing licence holders is £185. There are no fuel surcharges, no booking fees and no charge for using our car on test day when you are on a block booking.

Yes. We run both manual and automatic dual-controlled tuition cars. Automatic lessons are increasingly popular with learners who want to pass quickly, drivers who find clutch control stressful, and anyone planning to drive an electric car — every EV on UK roads is an automatic. Remember that an automatic licence only entitles you to drive automatics, whereas a manual pass covers both.

Yes. We have instructors who teach in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and Polish. Bilingual instruction is particularly helpful for learners who understand road procedure perfectly well but find technical English explanations hard work under pressure. Tell us your preferred language when you book and we will match you accordingly.

DVSA practical test waiting times in the North West are currently long, often several months at the busiest centres. We strongly recommend booking your practical test as soon as you have passed your theory, even if you are not yet test-ready — you can always move the date. Our office will help you find the earliest realistic slot across the Manchester, Sale, Cheetham Hill and Bredbury test centres.

Just your valid UK provisional licence and glasses or contact lenses if you need them to read a number plate at 20 metres. You must be at least 17 (or 16 if you receive the enhanced rate mobility component of PIP). Wear comfortable flat shoes — no heavy boots, heels or flip-flops. You do not need your own insurance; our tuition cars are fully insured for learner drivers.

No, you can start practical lessons straight away with just a provisional licence, and most learners do. However, you cannot book your practical test until your theory certificate is issued, and the certificate is only valid for two years. Because of that we encourage learners to sit theory early — ideally within the first few weeks of starting lessons.

Life happens. Give us at least 48 hours' notice and we will move your lesson free of charge. Cancellations inside 24 hours are charged in full because the slot cannot usually be refilled, though we always use discretion for genuine emergencies, illness and bereavement.

Yes. We collect from and drop off at any address inside our coverage area — home, school, sixth form, university or workplace — at no extra charge. Many of our students fit lessons around shifts or lectures, and evening and weekend slots are available.

Yes, and for block-booking and intensive students the use of the car on test day is included. We normally arrange a warm-up lesson immediately before the test so you arrive settled rather than cold, and your instructor waits at the test centre for your result.
